Day 1: Journey from Guwahati/Shillong to Siju, Baghmara, or Emangre – Into the Heart of the Garo Hills

Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from either Guwahati or Shillong, as you set out on a memorable journey towards Wari Chora, deep within the unexplored Garo Hills of Meghalaya. This is not your average sightseeing day – prepare to travel through rugged terrain, remote tribal villages, and narrow roads that twist and wind through the hills. Unlike most of our Meghalaya tours, this first day is designed to be a real adventure, with the drive itself being both long and challenging.

While the roads may not be the best, the scenic beauty of the surroundings will more than make up for it. Expect to see untouched forests, hilltop views, and glimpses of village life that remain untouched by modern development. This immersive experience gives you a raw and authentic taste of Meghalaya’s lesser-known gems.

If time permits, you can take a short detour en route to explore two fascinating natural wonders – the Siju Caves, one of the longest limestone cave systems in India, and the stunning Rongchang rock formation, a geological marvel perfect for photography and quick exploration.

As evening approaches, check in at a basic guesthouse or eco-homestay in Siju, Baghmara, or Emangre. Be mindful that these areas are still developing, so facilities might be limited – especially electricity, which may not be available through the night. It's a good idea to end the day early, get some rest, and prepare for another exciting day ahead.

Day 2: Siju/Baghmara/Emangre to Wari Chora – River Trail Adventure & Nature Exploration

Begin your day early with a quick breakfast before setting off on yet another thrilling adventure. A local vehicle will be waiting to take you from your homestay or guest house to the entry point of Wari Chora. The drive, which lasts about one to two hours, cuts through the rugged and breathtaking landscapes of the Garo Hills. Expect a bumpy ride, but the surrounding natural beauty makes every twist and turn worth it.

Once you arrive at Wari Chora, you'll be greeted by your local guide, who will lead you on an unforgettable trek through one of Meghalaya’s most stunning river gorges. This hidden gem, often seen in breathtaking Instagram posts, is as surreal in real life as it looks in photos.

The trek itself is a mix of adventure and raw natural beauty. You’ll hike through dense forested slopes, carefully cross bamboo bridges, and navigate rocky trails, all while the sound of the river accompanies your journey. The trail can be challenging in parts, but the stunning scenery and immersive experience make it deeply rewarding.

At Wari Chora, take a country boat ride through the stunning, narrow river gorge. With crystal-clear water (unless it has rained), towering cliffs, and thick greenery, it feels like a journey into a lost world.

On prior request, a riverside packed lunch or picnic can also be arranged.

After the boat ride, begin your hike back up—be prepared for a steep climb in parts. Return to your stay via the same bumpy road, freshen up, and enjoy a simple local dinner. Relax with your hosts and call it a night after an exciting and exhausting day.

Yes, the trail may leave you a little tired, but trust us—when you reach your final destination along the river, the view will absolutely wow you. This is where nature truly shows off, and the effort will feel more than worth it.

Day 3: Siju/Baghmara/Emangre → Guwahati/Shillong

Begin your final day with a visit to the Siju Cave – one of India’s longest limestone caves, if you haven’t explored it on Day 1. This impressive natural wonder is known for its unique rock formations and bat colonies.

You may also explore the nearby Jadisil Fish Sanctuary, an interesting spot that adds a peaceful and scenic end to your adventure.

After these visits, begin your return journey to Guwahati or Shillong, marking the end of your immersive Wari Chora experience.

• Wari Chora and its surroundings are very remote. Facilities are minimal and basic.

• Only seasonal local food is available, so be prepared for limited dining options.

• Electricity and mobile networks may be intermittent or unavailable in certain areas.
